Installation Guide
InboxPilot integrates natively into Gmail and Outlook. Follow this guide to install the extension, configure permissions, and send your first tracked email.
Chrome Extension for Gmail
Supports Google Chrome, Brave, Arc, Edge, and Google Workspace accounts
Download and unzip
Click "Download extension (.zip)" above, then unzip it (double-click on macOS and Windows, or "Extract All"). Keep the unzipped folder somewhere permanent, such as Documents/InboxPilot. Chrome reads the extension from that folder every time it starts, so do not delete or move it. The folder you need is the one that directly contains manifest.json.
Open the Extensions page
In Chrome, Brave, Edge, or Arc, paste chrome://extensions into the address bar and press Enter. (Edge uses edge://extensions and Brave uses brave://extensions.)
Turn on Developer mode
Flip the "Developer mode" toggle in the top-right corner of the Extensions page. Three new buttons appear: Load unpacked, Pack extension, and Update.
Load unpacked
Click "Load unpacked" and select the unzipped folder, the one that contains manifest.json (not the .zip file, and not a parent folder that only holds another folder). "InboxPilot AI" should now appear in your extensions list.
Pin the extension
Click the puzzle-piece Extensions icon in the Chrome toolbar and press the pin next to "InboxPilot AI" so its icon stays visible.
Open Gmail and sign in
Open mail.google.com (reload the tab if it was already open), click the InboxPilot icon, and choose "Sign in with Google". Then click Compose: the InboxPilot tracking toggle appears in the compose window.
InboxPilot is not published on the Chrome Web Store yet, so you install it manually in Chrome developer mode. Chrome will show a notice that you are running an unpacked extension; that is expected for this build.
Download extension (.zip)File: inboxpilot-extension.zip (about 200 KB). It talks to https://inboxpilot.us only.
How to update
- Download the latest inboxpilot-extension.zip from this page and unzip it over your old folder (replace the files), or into a new folder.
- Open chrome://extensions. If you unzipped into a new folder, click "Remove" on the old InboxPilot AI card and use "Load unpacked" on the new folder.
- If you replaced the files in the same folder, click the circular reload arrow on the InboxPilot AI card instead.
- Reload any open Gmail tabs so the new version is injected.
Troubleshooting
"Manifest file is missing or unreadable"
You selected the wrong folder. Pick the folder that directly contains manifest.json, popup/, content/ and background/. If you see another single folder inside the one you chose, open it and select that one instead.
An "Errors" button appears on the extension card
Click Errors to read the message, then click "Clear all" and the reload arrow. If the error persists after a fresh download, send us the text at support@inboxpilot.us.
Nothing shows up in Gmail
Reload the Gmail tab (Cmd/Ctrl+R). Confirm the extension is toggled on in chrome://extensions and that the tab is on mail.google.com, not a different Google domain.
The extension disappeared or Chrome says it is disabled
Chrome may show a "Disable developer mode extensions" banner at startup. Dismiss it, or re-enable the extension in chrome://extensions. If you moved or deleted the folder, load it again.
Sign-in window closes without signing in
Allow pop-ups for the sign-in window, make sure you are using a Google account that has access, then click the InboxPilot icon and try again.
Outlook Add-in
Supports Outlook desktop (Windows, macOS) and Outlook for Web (Microsoft 365)
Install the Add-in
Open Outlook desktop or web, select "Get Add-ins" from the ribbon or settings menu, search for "InboxPilot", or sideload manifest.xml for developer testing.
Connect Your Mailbox
Open the InboxPilot sidebar panel in Outlook. Sign in with your Microsoft 365 credentials to grant workspace telemetry permissions.
Compose & Track
Compose a new email in Outlook. The tracking and template actions appear directly in the message composer ribbon.
